Soie d'Alger (pronounced 'swa-dal-jay') is a gorgeous, smooth 7-strand spun silk thread available in 620+ colors. Made of the best quality spun silk, this thread has an incredible quality in luster and softness. This thread does not snarl in the needle, resists abrasion, and has good tensile strength.
Soie d'Alger is used as a reference thread in needlework activities. It is dyed in skeins to ensure a homogeneous color. A chart produced in 1890 is the base for all of its sets and over 2,688 colors. It is used in carpets, embroidery, tapestries, trimmings, cross stitch, counted thread, needlepoint, Hardanger, stumpwork, and more. It can be used in machine weaving, knitting, embroidery, and large topstitching.
We stock Soie d'Alger in 5-meter skeins.
** Inactive colors we may still have in stock -- some may only be available in 8-meter skeins and cost around $5.50.
